PANAQUA™ Water & Wastewater Treatment Systems were designed for mining. In addition to being durable and practical, PANAQUA™ System modules can be utilized in many configurations to treat a range of contaminates and concentrations. One common method to treat mine water is to combine PANAQUA™ Chem-Inject, PANAQUA™ Chem Makeup, PANAQUA™ Reactor, and PANAQUA™ Filtration.
Purification of mine water contaminated with dissolved metals and suspended solids using this treatment method consists of a two-stage or three-stage chemical precipitation process including coagulation and flocculation. The specific metals or other contaminants of concern determine selection of the chemical precipitation program and the specific attributes of each PANAQUA™ Water & Wastewater Treatment System module.
The wastewater treatment process consists of the following: PANAQUA™ Chem-Makeup converts solid chemicals into liquids which are then injected using PANAQUA™ Chem-Inject. Treatment chemicals are injected into PANAQUA™ Reactor where they are thoroughly mixed with influent mine water to ensure a complete chemical reaction. Following chemical treatment, suspended and precipitated solids are separated from the water using PANAQUA™ Filtration.
Additional treatment modules such as PANAQUA™ Membranes, PANAQUA™ Selenium or PANAQUA™ Nutrients can follow PANAQUA™ Filtration for additional treatment. PANAQUA™ Pumphouse can be used to move influent from the mine to PANAQUA™ Reactor and can add an additional boost to send purified effluent back to the environment, completing the cycle.
A PANAQUA™ modular water treatment plant can be built in “trains”, allowing the WTP to expand with the project and adding flexibility for seasonal fluctuations in flow rate. Trains can be brought on and offline with capacity or maintenance needs, and new trains can be added as needed, even years later, deferring capital expenditure.
